I like to paint narrative paintings as this.  There´s so much to tell in each detail or texture painted.  The girl is riding her homemade scooter, almost dragging it on the edge of the sidewalk.  Even though she´s poor, she´s satisfied with the little she has.  She´s having fun riding her scooter without any worries or hurries.  The size of this painting is 31.5 x 33 in., oil on canvas.

Me gusta pintar pinturas narrativas como ésta.  Hay mucho que decir en cada detalle o textura pintada.  La chica está andando en su patineta casera, casi arrastrándola en el bordo de la acera.  Aunque ella es pobre, está satisfecha con lo poco que tiene.  Se está divertiendo andando en su patineta sin preocupaciones o apuros.  El tamaño de esta pintura es 80 x 84 cms, óleo sobre lienzo.

Melon Refreshment, Refresco de Melón

This was my first time that I experimented using slate as a support.  The slate I used for this painting was a little heavy and had some textures, but it was a wonderful support for painting.  Slate was used as a support by Titian, Sabastiano del Piombo, Alessandro Allori, Rubens and other great masters. The size of the painting is 11.75 x 23.5 in., oil on slate.

Ésta es mi primera vez que experimenté usar una superficie como la pizarra.  La pizarra que usé para esta pintura es un poco pesada y tiene algunas texturas, pero fue una superficie maravillosa para pintar.  La pizarra fue usada como soporte por Tiziano, Sebastiano del Piombo, Alessandro Allori, Rubens y otros grandes maestros.  El tamaño de la pintura es 30 x 60 cms, óleo sobre pizarra.

Breakfast, Desayuno

On this painting I wanted to paint a tea kettle, a semita(sweet bread), and some cup of a hot drink. This is a typical Salvadoran breakfast: the sweet bread known as semita is made with a filling of pineaple, guava, brown sugar or even fig.  The size of the painting is 16 x 20 in., oil on panel.

En esta pintura quise pintar una tetera, una semita(pan dulce, y una taza de bebida caliente.  Éste es un típico desayuno salvadoreño: el pan dulce conocido como semita está hecho con un relleno de piña, guayaba, dulce de panela, o hasta figo.  El tamaño de la pintura es 41 x 51, óleo sobre tabla.

Italian Relics, Reliquias Italianas

I like how a painting can tell a story in its details.  Like a jigsaw puzzle, you´re trying to discover what else is there and what more can the painting tell you.  If you look at the black vase, you will find a reflection of myself painting.  I could have added something else, but I wanted to tell the story that I was there painting that theme.  The size of the painting is 18 x 24 in., oil on canvas.

Me gusta como una pintura puede contar una historia en sus detalles.  Como un rompecabezas, uno trata de descubrir que más hay ahí y que más puede la pintura contar.  Si ven en el jarrón negro, encontrarán una reflección mía pintando.  Podría haber agregado algo más, pero quise contar la historia que yo estaba ahí pintando ese tema.  El tamaño de la pintura es 46 x 61 cms, óleo sobre lienzo.

Vintage

This painting gives a tribute to the past.  The statue of the boy seems like a ghost that has suddenly appeared, reminding us of that far away past.  On the picture there´s an illustration of a lady doing her every day activities, making us imagine how life used to be more than a century ago.   The size of the painting is 16 x 20 in., oil on canvas.

Ésta pintura le da un homenaje al pasado.  La estatua del niño parece como un fantasma que de repente ha aparecido, recordándonos de un pasado lejano.  En el cuadro aparece una ilustración de una dama haciendo sus actividades cotidianas, haciéndonos imaginar como era la vida, más de un siglo atrás.  El tamaño de la pintura es 41 x 51 cms, óleo sobre lienzo.

Old Man With a Hat, Viejito Con Sombrero

This is the first painting that I finished this year.  This was my second time that I had the chance to work with copper.  Before painting, I prepared the surface using a coat of lead white and calcium carbonate mix, and let it dry for two months. It was an interesting experience for me working with this support; I wish I could afford to do it again and again, but copper is very expensive.  The size of the painting is 6 x 8 in, oil on copper.

Ésta es la primera pintura que logro terminar este año.  Ésta fue mi segunda vez que tuve la oportunidad de trabajar con el cobre.  Antes de pintar, preparé la superficie con una capa de una mezcla de blanco plomo y carbonato de calcio, y lo dejé secar por dos meses.  Fue una experiencia interesante para mi trabajar con esta superficie; desearía hacerlo una y otra vez, pero el cobre es bien caro.  El tamaño de la pintura es 15 x 20 cms, óleo sobre cobre.

Pupusas

The pupusas is a traditional Salvadorean dish that is like a tortilla with either a combination of cheese, beans and pork rinds inside.  This is the most famous Salvadorean dish and it´s served everywhere here in El Salvador for breakfast, lunch or dinner.   The painting is done in oils in an 18 x 24 in. panel.

Las pupusas son un platillo tradicional salvadoreño que es como una tortilla con una combinación de queso, frijoles o chicharrones adentro.  Éste es el platillo salvadoreño más famoso y se sirve en todas partes aquí en El Salvador, ya sea como desayuno, almuerzo o cena.  La pintura está hecha en óleos en una tabla de 46 x 61 cms.
