Pupusas

The pupusas is a traditional Salvadorean dish that is like a tortilla with either a combination of cheese, beans and pork rinds inside.  This is the most famous Salvadorean dish and it´s served everywhere here in El Salvador for breakfast, lunch or dinner.   The painting is done in oils in an 18 x 24 in. panel.

Las pupusas son un platillo tradicional salvadoreño que es como una tortilla con una combinación de queso, frijoles o chicharrones adentro.  Éste es el platillo salvadoreño más famoso y se sirve en todas partes aquí en El Salvador, ya sea como desayuno, almuerzo o cena.  La pintura está hecha en óleos en una tabla de 46 x 61 cms.

The Snack, Refrigerio

This painting was very interesting for me to paint for two reasons: cause of its small size and because it was my first time that I painted on copper.  Copper is a metal surface that needs a special preparation, but once it´s well prepared it accepts paint wonderfully. Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Canaletto, Chardin, and other Old Masters used copper as a support in some of their paintings.  The size of this painting is 6 x 8 in., oil on copper.

Ésta pintura fue muy interesante pintar para mi, por dos razones: por su pequeño tamaño y porque fue la primera vez que pintaba sobre cobre.  Cobre es una superficie de metal que necesita una preparación especial, pero media vez esté bien preparado acepta la pintura maravillosamente.  Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Canaletto, Chardin, y otros Viejos Maestros usaron cobre como soporte en algunas de sus pinturas.  El tamaño de la pintura es 15 x 20 cms., óleo sobre cobre.
