Sugar Cane Mill-Molienda de Caña de Azucar

This painting was very interesting to paint for its many textures and details.  I love to be able to paint every nut and to be able to describe with each brushstroke every one of those details.  The machine is ready to make some delicious sugar cane juice.  The size of the painting is 23 x 31 in, oil on canvas.

Esta pintura fue muy interesante de pintar por sus muchas texturas y detalles.  Me encanta el poder pintar cada tornillo y poder describir con cada pincelada cada uno de estos detalles.  La máquina está preparada para hacer un poco del delicioso jugo de caña de azucar.  El tamaño de la pintura es 60 x 80 cms., óleo sobre lienzo.

Samba!

Samba is a very energetic and sensual dance.  Everything about Samba is so nice, the carnival, the colorful customs, the music, elegance and rythm:  it´s one of my favorite dances.  The size of the painting is 23 x 31 in., oil on canvas.

Samba es un baile muy energético y sensual.  Todo sobre la Samba es tan bonito, el carnaval, los coloridos trajes, la música, la elegancia y el ritmo: es uno de mis bailes favoritos.  El tamaño de la pintura es 60 x 80 cms, óleo sobre lienzo.

Self Portrait-Autoretrato

I painted this self-portrait  from life from a two 3 hours sessions(6 hours total).  The lighting is a soft natural light, my two painting sessions were around 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.  The size of the painting is 12 x 16 in., oil on canvas.

Pinté este autoretrato al natural de dos sesiones de 3 horas(un total de 6 horas).  La condición de luz es suave y natural, mis dos sesiones de pintura fueron de 9:00 am a 12:00 pm.  El tamaño de la pintura es 30 x 40 cms, óleo sobre lienzo.

Violin Concerto

I´m always fascinated painting trompe l´oeils subjects like this.   I like to give myself that extra challenge to try to paint everything so convincingly that it seems to fool the eye.  Painting the stamp as close to life size as possible was one of the most challenging tasks of the painting.  The stamp measures one inch and a half only, you could imagine the challenge of painting a painting that small!!   The size of the painting is 9 x 12 in., oil on Arches paper.

Siempre estoy facinado pintar temáticas de trampantojo como ésta.  Me gusta darme ese reto extra de tratar  de pintar todo tan convincentemente que parece engañar al ojo.  Pintar la estampilla lo más cerca posible del tamaño natural fue uno de las tareas más desafiantes de la pintura.  La estampilla sólo mide cuatro centimetros, ¡pueden imaginar el reto de pintar una pintura tan pequeña!  El tamaño de la pintura es 22 x 30 cms, óleo sobre papel Arches.

Geisha´s Elegance-Elegancia Geisha

This painting is based on a 4 hours alla prima painting session  from life that I painted 3 months ago.  This was a great exercise, but wanted to do something way more detailed.  There´s so much elegancy on the pose, the cloths, the kimono, the fan she´s holding, the table, and of course this beautiful oriental lady.  The size of the painting is 18 x 24 in., oil on canvas.

Esta pintura está basada en una sesion de pintura de 4 horas de alla prima al natural que pinté 3 meses antes.  Este fue un buen ejercicio, pero quería hacer algo mucho más detallado.  Hay tanta elegancia en la pose, la ropa, el kimono, el abanico que está sosteniendo, la mesa, y desde luego esta hermosa dama oriental.  El tamaño de la pintura es 46 x 61 cms, óleo sobre lienzo.

Hindi

This the first time that I experimented using Arches paper for oils as a support.   The paper is a wonderful surface to work on, and doesn´t need any further preparation.  I also experimented using two new historical colors I recently bought: lapiz lazuli and malachite.  Lapis lazuli was one of the most expensive and rarest pigments the Old Masters used.   Lapis Lazuli is a blue colored semi precious stone that was replaced by French Ultramarine blue in the 19th century.  Malachite green is copper carbonate.  I used lapiz lazuli as a glaze on the background and malachite green on the the rupee bill.  The size of the painting is 9 x 12 in.  oil on Arches Paper.

Ésta es la primera vez que experimenté usar el papel Arches para óleo como soporte.  El papel es una superficie maravillosa para pintar, y no necesita ninguna preparación extra.  También experimenté usar dos nuevos colores históricos que compre recientemente: lapislázuli y malaquita.  El lapislázuli fue uno de los pigmentos más caros y raros que los viejos maestros usaron.  Lapislázuli es una piedra semi preciosa de color azul que fue remplazada por el azul ultramar francés en el siglo 19.  El verde malaquita es carbonato de cobre.  Usé lapislázuli como una veladura en el fondo y verde malaquita en el billete de rupee.  El tamaño de la pintura es 23 x 31 cms, óleo sobre papel Arches.

Nuts and Chocolate-Nueces y Chocolate

I always enjoy drinking a cup of warm chocolate just like the grandmother´s illustration on the box of chocolate tablets. I already had the idea of painting the nut and the small pot before it ocurred to me to add the "Abuelita" box of chocolate tablets.  I enjoy painting "paintings within paintings" subject matters...as it feels that you have two or three paintings going at once in the same painting.  The size of the painting is 11 x 14 in., oil on oil primed linen canvas.

Siempre disfruto tomar de una taza de chocolate caliente como la ilustración de la abuelita en la caja de tabletas de chocolate.  Ya tenía la idea de pintar la nuez y la pequeña olla antes que se me ocurriera pintar la caja de tabletas de chocolate de "Abuelita".  Me divierte pintar temas de "pinturas sobre pinturas, ya que se siente como que se tuvieran dos o tres pinturas que pintar al mismo tiempo en la misma pintura.  El tamaño de la pintura es 27 x 35 cms., óleo sobre lienzo de lino con imprimación de óleo.
